I talk about our plastic obsession and my #PlasticFreeProduce campaign with Liz and Leo of Food for Thought. I feel this is my best radio interview yet! Continue reading “Talking Plastic Free Produce with Liz and Leo”
Is Your Mind Bendy?
To meet the world on its own terms and respect the reality of another as an expression of that world as fundamental and inalienable as your own reality is an art immensely rewarding yet immensely difficult — especially in an era when we have ceased to meet one another as whole persons and instead, collide as fragments. Maria Popova, Brain Pickings Continue reading “Is Your Mind Bendy?”

There’s Something in the Laundry
Do you remember the days when our parents used to ‘burn the papers’? For those who are too young to understand that term, let me walk you back to my childhood, by the edge of Lake Macquarie in New South Wales, Australia. Continue reading “There’s Something in the Laundry”

Undercover Plastic Detective
I love the ocean. This love is expressed through my underwater photography and amateur freediving (holding my breath while swimming underwater). Back on dry land I am also a busy mother and ‘everyday consumer’. Each time I filled my supermarket trolley with the weekly groceries for my family, a few questions haunted me. Continue reading “Undercover Plastic Detective”

Sacred

The large dark skinned man is about to enter the secluded sandy pathway ahead of me, his friend, who is behind me, calls him back. They let me go on ahead, and they both follow closely behind to a place I’d never been before … Continue reading “Sacred”
Triggering a Change

This could be the most important photo you see all year!
My heart was pounding and I hid under my hat like a criminal who was planning to commit a crime as I waited for the queue to disperse in front of the deli counter in a supermarket.
When it was all clear, I chose an employee who looked kind and competent and gingerly asked if I could buy 2 kilos of uncooked chicken wings and have them put straight into my re-usable container. The lady behind the counter looked startled and said she had to ask the manager, she returned a few minutes later saying it was OK.
She set the scales to deduct the weight of the container and stuck the barcode sticker straight onto the outside of my re-usable plastic container, which I then scanned at the self-serve terminal.
I feel like I have just changed the world. Stay tuned for more plastic reduction updates.
Freak

Today, I found the time to tend to my garden bed, which had become a little derelict since the peas finished a few months ago. Life just got away from me, photographing, holidaying, writing, attending seminars and a host of children’s commitments had kept me very busy. Continue reading “Freak”
